Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills training groups at Pacific DBT Collaborative

"DBT assumes that many of the problems exhibited by clients are caused by skills deficits. In particular, the failure to use effective behavior when it is needed is often a result of not knowing skillful behavior or when or how to use it... Therefore, a key focus in DBT is to improve clients’ ability to use skillful behavior when needed, with a particular focus on learning effective emotion regulation strategies."

Other Services

In addition to comprehensive DBT our clinicians are trained and specialize in the following practices for adults, adolescents, families & couples.

PROLONGED EXPOSURE FOR TRAUMA

Prolonged exposure is an evidence based treatment for all forms of PTSD. The research shows that of those who participate in prolonged exposure, 60% have a reduction in symptoms (i.e., hypervigilance, avoidance, irritability, intrusive thoughts and flashbacks); 40% no longer meet criteria for PTSD.

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY

Is an evidence based behavioral therapy that helps clients build psychological flexibility. Rooted in mindfulness and values-based action, ACT encourages individuals to live meaningfully—even in the presence of pain or discomfort. ACT has demonstrated durable effects over time and is most effective in working with: depression, anxiety disorders, chronic pain, substance us, stress & burnout.

PARENT TRAINING

Using a behavioral and attachment lens, our clinicians are trained to work with parents and caregivers of young children - adulthood to assist in modifying behaviors, decreasing conflict and increasing skillfulness within the family system.

EXPOSURE AND RESPONSE PREVENTION

We offer exposure therapy for anxiety disorders, including: panic disorder, OCD, social phobia, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety. Treatment targets internal and external components of anxiety by reducing avoidance and changing behaviors.

BEHAVIORAL ACTIVATION FOR DEPRESSION

This treatment is a systematic approach to target and reduce symptoms of depression (inactivity, isolation, apathy, loss of pleasure, hopelessness). Behavioral activation has been shown to be beneficial for people who struggle with severe, chronic depression.

DBT FOR SUBSTANCE USE

We offer evidence-based psychotherapy for substance use and addictive behaviors through a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) framework. DBT has been adapted to address the unique needs of those with substance use disorders (SUDs) and other addictive behaviors—including approaches like dialectical abstinence and “clear mind."
